University of Cincinnati President Nancy Zimpher says goodbye to Karen Gould, former dean of McMicken College of Arts and Sciences.

Romance Languages department head Lowanne Jones recalled meeting Gould, "a very smartly tailored person" wearing "elegant shoes."

Those shoes, Jones said, will be "very, very, very difficult to fill" after five years of massive change, innovation and decisive leadership.

"It is not easy to say goodbye to Karen. It is easy to say 'Thank you,'" Jones said.

Chris McCord, associate dean for graduate affairs, said much of what Gould imparted will "stay behind with all of us."

"We often speak of leaving a lasting mark … Karen has taught us all so much about what it means to be an administrator and leader," he said.
