STUDENTS: Come to McMicken Commons Nov. 7 for Semester Conversion Info

About 15 University of Cincinnati undergraduate advisors will be on McMicken Commons from

11:45 to 1 p.m., Monday, Nov. 7

, in order to provide students with general information regarding semester conversion and to answer student questions.

The advisors will also be passing out free hot chocolate.

(Alternate location in the event of inclement weather is the Tangeman University Center Atrium, on the 300 level of TUC.)

The Nov. 7 date for the information event was selected because the date represents the 50th anniversary of a Nov. 7, 1961, vote by the UC Board of Trustees to convert from semesters to quarters.

The information session on this upcoming Nov. 7, 2011, will begin with brief remarks by Vice Provost Kristi Nelson and Bill Whitaker, professor of finance in the Carl H. Lindner College of Business.

Nelson and Whitaker serve as co-chairs of the Semester Conversion

Steering Committee that is guiding planning in preparation for UC’s switch to semesters on Aug. 27, 2012. UC and other Ohio colleges and universities

still on quarters

are converting to semesters as part of the Ohio Board of Regents’ University System of Ohio’s

Strategic Plan for Higher Education

.

They will briefly discuss the history of UC’s academic calendar. In the early 1890s, UC first went onto a semester calendar. The university then switched to quarters in the early  1960s at the Ohio Board of Regents.
