University of Cincinnati Announces Diversity and Inclusion Film Series for Spring Semester 2015
With the shared values of diversity and inclusion, UC faculty and staff have challenged themselves and each other to think deeply and revolutionize new and meaningful ways to put words into action. In some departments or programs, the fit is a natural extension of work already in progress. But how does one bring the idea to life in a unit where the connections and opportunities are not so transparent?
In Campus Services, Janet Wolf found a way. As manager of the Connection Center and Cinema in Tangeman University Center, Wolf reached out to other programs and departments that were generating diversity and inclusion programming, in the hope of securing films that support and enhance their ongoing efforts. I just thought it would be a nice way to make the best use of the Cinema, said Wolf. These days, students watch movies and media in so many ways. But theres still something special about sitting together in a theater and having a shared experience, especially around occasions like these that are so impactful. I just wanted to find a way to make it work.
On short notice, and with the kind of seat-of-the-pants initiative that so often characterizes substantive work around diversity and inclusion, Wolfs campus outreach, university vendor negotiations and a few other tricks of the trade, enabled the Cinema to obtain and showcase Diversity & Inclusion films during 2015 Spring Semester.
Well, Ive worked here twenty-eight years, Ms. Wolf confided, and UC has so many great folks who come together to make things happen. You learn your way around and make those connections. Campus Services is proud to have a team member like Janet Wolf, doing her own unique part in bringing Diversity & Inclusion ideas to fruition. When Wolf is not managing the Cinema, youll find her managing the Connections Center at the main entrance of TUC, delivering high quality customer service to the UC community for a wide range of services.
