College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services to Cover Confirmation and Orientation Fees for Selected High School Applicants through Bearcat Pathways Program

University of Cincinnati’s College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services (CECH) is partnering with several Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) to offer a new program that provides assistance to selected CPS students who have also been accepted to CECH. Titled UC’s Bearcat Pathways Program, the initiative waives fees that are associated with confirmation and orientation into CECH. Eligible students are nominated by administration at their respective high schools to become part of the program.

Before they can think about how to fund their college education, some students first have to worry about finding the money to confirm a spot at CECH. The new Bearcat Pathways Program waives fees associated with confirming for accepted students from participating high schools in the hopes of helping them move forward in the college search and selection process.

“We are excited to roll out the Bearcat Pathways Program," said Dean of CECH Lawrence J. Johnson. “This program is a great opportunity to help get more CPS students on the path to higher education, and we are proud to be leading it at CECH. This reflects the many ways in which we develop creative partnerships to benefit our community, students, and the university.”

The Bearcat Pathways Program is designed to provide assistance to students who qualify for financial aid and are eligible Pell Grant recipients. It also strives to provide another resource and support system for students who may not think they can attend post-secondary education.

The Bearcat Pathways Program can support up to four students from each of the selected Cincinnati-area high schools: Aiken, Dater, Gamble Montessori, Hughes STEM, Oyler, Riverview East, Shroder, Taft, Western Hills, Withrow, and Woodward. Students must have applied and been accepted to a participating CECH program before being nominated for the Bearcat Pathways Program. Nominations from each high school’s GEAR UP Specialists are due Feb. 20, 2015. For any questions or more information contact Josie Evans-Phillips at evanspje@ucmail.uc.edu.
