UC Partners with Castlight for Online Tool to Explore Local Healthcare Options: Quality Ratings, Patient Reviews and More

University of Cincinnati employees now have a new tool to find out what a doctor’s visit will cost before a visit or what other patients think of a particular practice.

That’s because the university has partnered with Castlight Health, a personalized portal to help users make the best decisions about meeting healthcare needs.

Those who register for Castlight will be eligible to win a prize of “premium free” health care for 12 months.

In other words, the university will cover your share of your monthly or biweekly medical premium. (Your premium is the portion currently deducted from your UC paycheck to pay your share for your healthcare insurance.) That prize will be awarded following the

April 30

  deadline for eligibility for the prize.

According to Liz Aumann, director of benefits for Human Resources, “We’re offering the incentive because we want to encourage our busy employees to take a little time to give Castlight a try. It’s a voluntary service that’s there to help them.”

With Castlight you can:

• Compare  doctors, facilities, and medical services based on price and quality ratings, including patient reviews. For instance, Castlight provides information about how much each doctor charges, where they went to medical school, how long they have been practicing and how other patients have rated them.

• See personalized cost estimates based on your location, medical plan, and whether or not you’ve already paid your annual deductible. So, when your doctor recommends labs, specialists and other medical services, you can look them up on Castlight to learn about cost and quality.

• Review step-by-step explanations of past medical spending so you know how much you’ve paid and why.

• Receive helpful tips about ways to reduce your medical bills and find high-quality care.

Castlight is available for all UC employees, spouses/domestic partners, and adult dependents age 18 and older who are enrolled in a UC Anthem medical plan.

and login.

2.    Click “Know Your Cost” on the homepage.

3.    You’ll be guided through registration. On your next visit, Castlight will launch right away.
