McMicken's Assistant Dean of Recruitment and Retention Initiatives to Be Honored at International Conference
Carol Tonge Mack will be one of the women honored at this years Women of the Diaspora Leadership Conference hosted by Its Just Posh in Montego Bay, Jamaica. In addition to this recognition, Tonge Mack will lead one of the workshops and also participate on a panel of women leaders from around the world during the conference.
Tonge Mack will be recognized due to her impact on those around her. Additionally, the Women of the Diaspora Leadership Conference will honor Tonge Mack and the other women who they believe epitomize Maya Angelous poem Still I Rise.
Im excited to have been invited to participate in this conference, Tonge Mack said, and of course it feels good to be honored.
Over the course of the conference, Tonge Mack, and each of the women, will lead workshops that allow the attendees to discuss and answer questions about various issues facing women today including women leadership, empowerment, love, personal wellness/health, nutrition, and career advancement.
Its Just Posh! LLC was created by Shelly-Ann Richmond as an extension of I am Somebodys Adored Child, Inc. (IASAC) whose initial goal was to help students gain admission into colleges and pursue higher education. The program has since expanded and now offers educational and medical support to schools, clinics, and helping women gain and maintain leadership positions.
Im looking forward to meeting other international women leaders during this conference, Tonge Mack said. Im also hoping to give back to others during this conference because I know how valuable it is to have a mentor and someone that you can look up to.
Additionally, Tonge Mack is excited to participate in this conference because she believes that women work best when they are a part of a community.
Theres always something to learn, Tonge Mack said. And I hope to learn as much as I give during this conference.
As a native of the Caribbean island of Antigua, which is located approximately one hour south of where the conference will be held in Jamaica, Tonge Mack is especially excited to attend the Women of the Diaspora Leadership Conference because of her familiarity with the culture and language of the island.
Its almost like home, Tonge Mack said. Im looking forward to speaking Patois, the regional dialect of Antigua and Jamaica, and interacting with both the women at the conference and the Jamaican people.
