Nine Seed Grants Awarded in UC President's Competitive Program
In light of national events, President Santa J. Ono recently launched a program to provide seed grants to faculty, students and staff interested in exploring ways to better understand and enhance the criminal justice system. Proposals for the competitive program were submitted in March 2015, and a representative review panel chaired by Verna Williams, Judge Joseph P. Kinneary Professor of Law, awarded nine seed grants in total.
Funded activities will include: survey research, manuscript development, documentary, exhibitions, speaker series, public policy report, annual conference presentations, public scholarship, campus lecture by keynote speaker and introducing a community engagement component into the first-year common reading.
The grant winners are:
- Keavash Assani, undergraduate student, McMicken College of Arts and Sciences
- J.C. Barnes, faculty member, College of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services
- Terry Boling, faculty member, College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning
- Todd Callais, faculty member, UC Blue Ash
- Mark Godsey, faculty member, College of Law

- Matt Logan, graduate student, College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services
- Shameka Neely, graduate student, College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services

I was especially pleased with the significant number, high quality and diverse nature of the proposals submitted, said President Ono. We are blessed with so many deep and creative thinkers on our campus. In addition to acknowledging all of those who submitted proposals, I want to extend a special thanks to Professor Williams for leading this effort and to the review panel for their service.
