Join History Department Head for Revolutionary War Trip this Summer

McMicken Department of History professor and head Christopher Phillips will partner with Provident Travel for “The American Revolution Revisited” trip, which is presented by the university’s history department and alumni association. The trip will take place from June 8 through 16. 

This year will be the fourth year that Phillips has hosted these trips, with the last three trips focusing on aspects of the Civil War. During this year’s trip, participants will visit important locations of the American Revolution. They will travel to a variety of sites and locations including Fort Necessity, Valley Forge, Fort Ticonderoga, Saratoga, and Boston, the seedbed of the Revolution. 

While in Boston, participants will visit many of the city’s sights such as Bunker Hill, Boston Massacre site, Freedom Trail, Old South Church, Faneuil Hall, the Boston Tea Party site, Boston Commons, Quincy Market, and Harvard University. 

Phillips and other local guides will provide expert narration and discuss the events leading up to and during the Revolutionary War. Phillips will give participants insight on events such as the political reactions to the Stamp and Townsend Acts and what led colonists to their ultimate break from the British Empire. 

The trip will also include stops at a variety of locations that set the stage for significant historical events in American history. Other tour highlights are the Valley Forge Military Encampment and National Park, Trenton Battlefield, Betsy Ross House, Lexington and Concord Battlefields, and Independence Hall and Benjamin Franklin sites in Philadelphia. 

This trip will provide participants with an educational experience as they visit historical sites and learn about American patriots such as Sam and John Adams, Paul Revere, John Hancock, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Ethan Allen and the Marquis de Lafayette. 

The eight-night tour will depart from Cincinnati in a deluxe motorcoach. Transportation and accommodations will include a stay at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, meals at unique restaurants, and sightseeing and admissions.
