Blackboard Update May 7 to Enhance eLearning Experience

Blackboard will be unavailable for students and instructors to use from 8 a.m. until approximately 11:59 p.m., Thursday, May 7. The update will enhance the eLearning experience for students and instructors. Highlights include:

  • Improved compatibility with modern browsers.
  • Improved plagiarism prevention with SafeAssign.
  • And more! For a complete list, visit uc.edu/ucit/outages/bbupdate.

Please note: Spring semester 2015 grades are due Wednesday, May 6, at 5 p.m. Students with no final grade after May 6 may be incorrectly dropped from summer classes or receive an inappropriate academic standing action.

The Learning Management Subcommittee of the universitywide IT Governance eLearning Committee recommended May 7 as the best date for the Blackboard update and associated outage. This date was selected to:

  •  Ensure instructors have adequate time to post courses and course materials in Blackboard prior to the start of summer semester on Monday, May 11
  •  Allow spring semester students to complete assignments and instructors to post grades prior to the deadline for spring semester grade submissions on Wednesday, May 6, at 5 p.m.

Maintaining an up-to-date Blackboard environment is critical to the university’s Third Century vision to “excel in eLearning.”
