Guinness Book of Records Attempt May 4 at UC Clermont

Join us on Monday as our faculty and students attempt to break the Guinness Book of Records for the highest voltage potato battery.

The attempt will take place from 3-5 p.m., Monday, May 4, in the Student Lounge at UC Clermont College, 4200 Clermont College Dr., Batavia.

“Our goal is to investigate the voltage of different types of potatoes with different metals.  We will hook up about 1,500 potatoes together – 1,500 pieces of copper and 1,500 pieces of zinc/aluminum --  which should by our calculations produce the voltage necessary to break the German team record and have the new world record, according to Guinness Book,” said Associate Professor of Physics Nick Abel who is collaborating with Professor of Chemistry Cliff Larrabee on this project.

Kroger donated the potatoes for this attempt.
