Volunteers Needed for UC's Helping Hands Effort Aug. 19 and 20
Incoming students will be moving into their residence halls on Wednesday, Aug. 19, and Thursday, Aug. 20. Helping Hands volunteers are encouraged to sign up for shifts on either or both of those days. The high-traffic times are typically between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., so schedule shifts during this period, if possible. Please arrange to work a three- to four-hour shift, but any amount of time volunteered is appreciated.
To ease the annual rush at Calhoun and Daniels Halls, organizers are splitting the buildings by directing two arrival times for each. The lower floors will be directed to arrive in the morning with the upper floors directed to begin arriving at noon.
Hall openings are as follows. The halls listed in bold are the halls where the most help is needed. Please consider this when registering.
- Wednesday, Aug. 19: Calhoun Hall, Dabney Hall, Turner/Schneider Halls, Morgens Hall, Campus Park Apartments
-
Thursday, Aug. 20: Daniels Hall, Siddall Hall, Stratford Heights, University Park Apartments

. Effort is made to assign preferred halls; however, adjusted assignments may be made to ensure hall coverage. At the beginning of August when schedules are completed, a confirmation email will be sent out with each volunteer's assignment.
Plan to attend the All Hands meeting 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, in Tangeman University Center, Great Hall.
Volunteers will meet with the hall coordinators to review the hall opening plans and to pick up the Helping Hands volunteer t-shirt. T-shirts are going to be the same design as last year. In support of the universitys sustainability initiative, coordinators and volunteers are asked to wear last years shirts if available. If not, volunteers can specify shirt size when registering.
In appreciation for involvement, all volunteers and coordinators will receive a free lunch at CenterCourt or MarketPointe@Siddall on the move-in day, and a free, day pass to the Campus Recreation Center.
This is an exciting time for students and their families. Being a Helping Hands volunteer allows UC the opportunity to welcome students and parents to campus and personally thank each student for choosing UC.
