Hoxworth Makes Emergency Appeal for Blood Donors
Hoxworth Blood Center is issuing an emergency appeal for blood donors following persistent, low donation rates, causing the tri-state blood supply to dwindle to insufficient levels.
Hoxworth is tasked with providing blood products needed by patients at 30-area hospitals. The shortage is not due to an increase in demand for blood products, rather fewer individuals are willing to give.
The blood supply can recover quickly if caring individuals come forward and roll up their sleeves, said Jim Tinker, director of donor recruitment. Without a reliable blood supply, lifesaving treatment for cancer patients and others could not occur. It only takes about an hour of your time to give someone else a lifetime.
Hoxworth operates eight neighborhood donor centers in Anderson Township, Blue Ash, Downtown, Ft. Mitchell, Mason, Tri-County, Western Hills and the Hoxworth Center adjacent to University Hospital.
Walk-ins are welcome, however appointments are encouraged. Call 513-451-0910 or visit hoxworth.org.
