UC Legal Leadership Presents at Prestigious National Conference
University of Cincinnati General Counsel Kenya Faulkner and Chief Risk Officer Anita Ingram recently presented to nearly 2,000 attendees at the June 28-July 1 National Association of College and University Attorneys annual conference in Washington, D.C.
Faulkner, UC vice president for legal affairs and general counsel since 2013, presented on Ethical Issues Surrounding Counsel as Witness, providing an overview of the American Bar Association and federal rules regarding situations where an institutions counsel may be required to provide testimony as a witness.
Her presentation focused on how to identify the client when the client is an organization, how to protect privileged communications between client and counsel, and important guidelines on ethical issues raised when counsel becomes a witness.
Ingram, UC assistant vice president and chief risk officer since 2014, presented as part of a panel on In-House Counsels Interface with Interface with Internal Audit, Institutional Risk Management, and Compliance, providing insight into in-house counsels role in resolving and reporting results from internal audits and investigations and in policy-development and training processes.

Prior to joining the university, Faulkner served as Inspector General for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Before that, she was a partner at Ballard Spahr in Philadelphia. At Ballard, she conducted complex internal investigations for governmental agencies and nonprofit companies and was also a member of the white collar litigation practice group. She also served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. She was also a Senior Deputy Attorney General in the Pennsylvania Attorney Generals Drug Strike Force Section and spent six years as a Philadelphia public defender.

Ingram is immediate past president of the University Risk Management and Insurance Association and served for 18 years managing risk for Southern Methodist University before coming to UC last year. Her higher education risk management expertise was recently featured in a Q&A feature in The Wall Street Journal.
The National Association of College and University Attorneys was founded more than 50 years ago thanks to efforts by the University of Michigan, several Ivy League institutions and others in order to advance the effective practice of higher education attorneys for the benefit of the colleges and universities they serve.
