President Ono Meets with Mayor, Holds News Conference
In a news conference this afternoon on the University of Cincinnati campus, President Santa J. Ono announced that he and Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley met today to discuss how the university and the city can best work together to move the city and the university communities forward following a UC officer-involved shooting off campus on July 19.
Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph Deters is investigating the officer-involved shooting and will be releasing his findings at his discretion.
President Onos and Mayor Cranleys conversation resulted in these outcomes:
President Ono has indicated to the mayor that UC is open to discussing participation in the Cincinnati Collaborative Agreement. In that manner, university can enhance transparency as it relates to its relationship with the Cincinnati Police Department and the universitys overall operations.
UC will review the training of its police officers to make sure that the university is applying best practices.
Because UC is committed to a safe community, President Ono and UC Police Chief Jason Goodrich will meet on July 27 with the City of Cincinnati Managers Advisory Group, which is an outgrowth of the Cincinnati Collaborative Agreement. President Ono and Goodrich have also decided to create a community advisory group to work directly with the UC Police Department.
Mayor Cranley and Dr. Ono also will be meeting with Dubose family members to offer condolences in person.
