UC Clermont Offers Two New Online Certificates in Healthcare

This fall, UC Clermont College will offer two new online certificate programs for those interested or already working in the growing healthcare field: the Healthcare Privacy and Security Certificate and the Physician Practice Management Certificate.

The Healthcare Privacy and Security Certificate program, offered completely online, arose from the increasing challenges faced by the healthcare industry with keeping personal health information protected — including growing volumes of electronic health records, new government regulations and a more complex IT security landscape. Candidates for the CHPS credential need specialized education in healthcare privacy and security to prepare them for the exam. Graduates will be more marketable in manager, privacy and security officer and compliance positions within hospitals, physician practices, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, state and federal government, mental health agencies and long-term care facilities.

“This certificate is particularly for registered health information technicians who have received a broad education but are interested in focusing more on privacy and security, a key concern in this digital age,” said Darline Foltz, assistant professor of health information systems technology. “It’s a way for them to be more marketable and specialized.” 

Also available online, the Physician Practice Management Certificate program is the next step for those with experience in healthcare and other areas who are ready to advance their careers, including current practice managers. Graduates of this certificate may pursue manager positions in small, mid-size and large physician practices as well as hospital-owned physician practices, ambulatory care centers and surgical centers.

Foltz stressed both the convenience and affordability of the Clermont offerings, as well as the ever-growing and evolving area of healthcare, as major benefits for students interested in the certificates. Just as the college’s health information systems technology associate’s degree can be completed online, these new certificate programs can be completed within one year of study, completely over the Web. In fact, interested students can even continue their virtual educations to earn their bachelor’s and master’s degrees in this area through Main Campus — all without ever setting foot in a classroom.

“The industry needs people who understand health information and the technology involved,” Foltz said. “There are many programs in these growing areas, but the University of Cincinnati name really lends credibility to our programs and to students’ resumes.”
