Helping Hands Volunteers Needed for Move-in Aug. 19-20

Incoming students will be moving into residence halls on Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 19-20. Helping Hands volunteers are encouraged to sign up for shifts on either or both of those days.

High-traffic times are typically between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., so schedule shifts during this period, if possible. Please arrange to work a three- to four-hour shift, but any amount of time volunteered is appreciated.

To ease the annual rush at Calhoun and Daniels Halls, Housing, Food & Retail Services is “splitting the buildings” by conducting two arrival times for each hall. The halls' lower floors will be directed to arrive in the morning with the upper floors arriving at noon.

The residence hall openings are as follows. Listed in italics are those halls where the most help is needed. Please consider this when registering.

•

Wednesday, Aug. 19:

Calhoun Hall, Dabney Hall

, Turner/Schneider Halls, Morgens Hall, Campus Park Apartments

•

Thursday, Aug. 20:

Daniels Hall, Siddall Hall

, Stratford Heights, University Park Apartments

. Effort is made to assign preferred halls; however, adjusted assignments may be made to ensure hall coverage. At the beginning of August when schedules are completed, a confirmation email will be sent out with each volunteer’s assignment.

Plan to attend the “All Hands” meeting 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6 in Tangeman University Center, Great Hall

. Volunteers will meet with the hall coordinators to review the hall opening plans and to pick up the Helping Hands volunteer t-shirt. T-shirts will be the same design as last year. In support of the university’s sustainability initiative, coordinators and volunteers are asked to wear last year’s shirts if available. If not, volunteers can specify shirt size when registering.

In appreciation, all volunteers and coordinators will receive a

free lunch at CenterCourt or MarketPointe@Siddall

on the move-in day, and a

free day pass to the Campus Recreation Center

on any day desired.

This is an exciting time for students and their families. Being a Helping Hands volunteer allows UC the opportunity to welcome students and parents to campus and personally thank each student for choosing UC.
