'Heritage Habitats' Featured in Park National Bank Art Gallery at UC Clermont
Heritage Habitats, a collaborative work created by Michigan-based artists Vicki VanAmeyden and Ginger Owen, will be featured in the Park National Bank Art Gallery at UC Clermont College from September 2 25, 2015. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
VanAmeyden, a Master of Fine Arts in Painting graduate of Western Michigan University and Owen, a Master in Fine Arts in Photography graduate of Louisiana State University, have combined their skills and disciplines to create
Heritage Habitats
, a series of physical spaces for contemplation and invocation of ancestry. The two immersive, sculptural installations emphasize the common experiences that bind human beings together. Looking through the lens of nostalgia, the installation engages the viewer in contemplation of the basic stages of life, from birth to death.

The iconic images selected for each installation,
Cairn
and
Grove
, are from the artists own family albums. Created to engage the viewer through their own unique experiences within the larger human story,
Cairn
operates like a box of photographs that one can sift through to memorialize life that has passed.
Grove
, on the other hand, acts as an interdependent ecosystem - a metaphor for a family. The hanging panels create an abstraction of a forest, which must be disturbed to transform. Both installations together, explore the passage of time as we pursue our own history through self-discovery.
