Benefit Concert Supports UC Clermont College's Fine Arts Initiative

UC Clermont College is teaming up with the Clermont Philharmonic Orchestra and Clermont Festival Chorale to hold a benefit concert Nov. 14 in the college's Krueger Auditorium.

The event raises awareness for the arts in Clermont County and funds for a new fine arts lab on the Batavia campus.

The Clermont Festival Chorale

kicks off the event at 2 p.m. with “Welcome to the 60’s”  - a concert of vocal music. Founded in 2006, the group's mission is to bring choral music programs to the greater Clermont community.

Beginning at 3 p.m., the Clermont Philharmonic Orchestra will take the stage to present “Rhapsody in Blue,” featuring renowned pianist Michael Chertock.

Chertock received undergraduate and graduate degrees in music from UC’s College Conservatory of Music, where he is now a professor of piano.  He also conducts the Blue Ash-Montgomery Symphony and is artistic director of the Peanut Butter & Jam Sessions for the Linton Chamber Music Series, an interactive music series geared toward children ages 2 to 5.

Chertock, an orchestral soloist and member of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, has worked with many industry luminaries and performed solo at some of the world's prestigious venues and festivals, including the Boston Pops, l'Orchestre Symphonique du Montreal and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.  In 1991 he was awarded the silver medal at the World Piano Competition of the American Music Scholarship Association. Other awards include the 1989 Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition prize, 1993 St. Charles International Piano Competition grand prize, the 1988 and '90 winner of the CCM Concerto Competition and first prize in the 1990 Rildia Bee O'Bryan Cliburn Competition.
