UC Students Take Top Honors in National and Regional Construction Competitions
The past month has been exciting for UC's College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) construction management program. Student associations within the program have received top honors in both national and regional construction competitions.
Six construction management students in CEAS competed in the Construction Management Competition hosted by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) earlier this month in San Diego. The team won first place in the Construction Management Competition and also won the Best Student Chapter" at the yearly leadership conference.
The competing construction management (CM) team consisted of Greg Fagan, Christian Sexton, Julian Mueller, Mitch Hudepohl, Austin Prosek and Andy McCalla. Olumayowa Daniel (AE 17) was also a contributing member of the project, assembling a 4D schedule for the team to use in its presentation.
The 2015 Construction Management Competition, sponsored by FASTTAC, featured teams from 23 universities from across the country. Each team provided a price and technical proposal for this years project, a 40,000-square-foot museum for the Fort Collins community in Northern Colorado, before competing in a spontaneous exercise led by the competition committee.
The University of Cincinnati team was selected as the winner based on its presentation along with the grades for estimating, project management and scheduling, safety and quality control.
The ABC student chapter at the University of Cincinnati was also named the 2015 Student Chapter of the Year for its accomplishments in programming, community service, communications and public relations and interaction with its sponsor, the ABC Ohio Valley Chapter, during the academic year. The student chapter was chosen from a list of five finalists.
Congratulations students on receiving such a top honor!
From Oct. 14-17, two dozen University of Cincinnati CEAS students traveled to Chicago with the Construction Competition Club, a subgroup of the Construction Student Association to complete in the ASC Estimating Competition. These students consisted of Construction Management and Civil Engineering majors who are members of the Construction Competition Club, a subgroup of the Construction Student Association.
UC sent four teams to participate in the competition, and all four teams placed in their competition category, which included heavy highway, commercial construction, electrical, and pre-construction.

Associate Builders and Construction (ABC) Management Competition
ABC's Construction Management Competition (CMC) is a hallmark competition that promotes careers in construction management. The competition is sponsored in part by the Trimmer Construction Education Foundation (TCEF) and ABC members. In addition to providing a significant learning opportunity, the competition fosters an environment that will bring out the best in each team; encourage dialogue among the students; and foster the team spirit as students rise to meet this challenge. The CMC is designed to challenge construction knowledge, time management, organizational and presentation skills. The competition features teams of four college and university students testing their project management, estimating, safety, quality control and presentation skills. Come prepared to have fun, challenge other students, and demonstrate your ability to think on your feet.
