UC Faculty, Staff & Students: Enroll in Citizens Police Academy

Are you interested in learning more about campus policing? Now you can.

The University of Cincinnati Department of Public Safety is now enrolling students, faculty and staff in its Citizens Police Academy. The six-week program is designed to increase engagement and understanding between students, faculty and staff and UC Police.

The academy provides participants a unique opportunity to learn first-hand about the critical functions of a police department and the role police officers play in fostering a safe community. The interactive learning curriculum includes:

  • Fundamentals of policing and crime prevention;
  • Conducting simulated policing scenarios;
  • Processing a crime scene;
  • Riding a Segway;
  • Learning basic self-defense techniques;
  • Introduction to UCPD’s K-9 & Hazardous Device teams.

The UC Citizens Police Academy will be held 5-7 p.m., Tuesday evenings Jan. 12-Feb. 16, at UC Public Safety: Edwards Three, 51 West Corry Blvd. Cincinnati, OH 45221 To register contact Captain Rodney Chatman at Rodney.chatman@uc.edu or 556-4228. Space is limited and participants will be enrolled on a fist-come first-served basis.
