UC Clermont Receives $115,000 Grant for Manufacturing Center
UC Clermont College received a $115,000 state grant to purchase robotic training units, as well as other equipment and tools for its Manufacturing Center at UC East in Batavia.
The RAPIDS grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Education has been awarded to regionally developed plans that support training for high-impact sectors of the Ohio economy. RAPIDS stands for Regionally Aligned Priorities In Delivering Skills. In southwest Ohio, the $1 million RAPIDS grant to several education partners was developed to support advanced manufacturing by strengthening training programs for future Ohio workers.
As part of the collaboration, the University of Cincinnati received $418,144 in equipment. UC Clermont received $115,759 from that award for the following equipment:
Two FANUC robotic training units
Electrical assembly equipment and tools
Mechanical and hydraulic assembly equipment and tools
UC Clermonts Manufacturing Center is a 10,000-square-foot space at the UC East campus (former Ford Plant in Batavia) with $1 million in equipment and tooling. The center also has a dedicated computer lab with industry software and simulators. Together they support hands-on training, certificates and degree programs in design and manufacturing engineering technology.
The equipment purchases will support current and future training in manufacturing technology skills, including the colleges existing partnership with Milacron LLC.
One robotic training unit will be placed at UC Easts Manufacturing Center and another at Grant Career Center. The UC East unit will be used for both degree-seeking and short-term training programs. Students at Grant will be able to earn UC college credit through the College Credit Plus program, and both college and high school students will be able to earn industry certification.
UC Clermont College is located in the center of Clermont County on 91 beautiful wooded acres in Batavia Township. The college is an accredited, open-access college offering more than 50 programs and degrees. UC East, a Clermont County expansion in the former Ford plant in Batavia Township, opened in the fall of 2010. It is home to UC Clermont's Allied Health programs. The college is part of the nationally recognized University of Cincinnati. For more information, call 513-732-5200 or visit www.ucclermont.edu
