Volunteers Needed for March 23 Active Shooter Exercise
The University of Cincinnati Police Department will conduct an emergency exercise in and around Langsam Library between
1-4 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2016.
Volunteers are needed to participate in the annual exercise and must arrive promptly at 1 p.m.
This emergency exercise, based on an active shooter scenario, is being conducted as part of our preparedness for any potential act of violence which might occur on our campus, said James L. Whalen, director of public safety and interim chief of police. Participants will practice the Run. Hide. Fight. response method.
As part of the exercise process, Whalen says emergency announcements will be made in and around Langsam Library, activities by role players will be conducted and police officers will respond. Prior to the exercise beginning, an announcement will be made to building occupants, and signage will be posted outside, alerting anyone nearby that this is an exercise. The UC Police Department has staged active shooter drills annually in different buildings since 2008.
UC Police need volunteers as role players for this event. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. Faculty, staff and students from all campuses may participate and should wear old clothing and gym shoes. Volunteers must attend the safety meeting at 1 p.m., March 23, in Langsam Library to participate. If you have questions or would like to volunteer, contact Pia Washington at 513-556-4986 or
. Volunteers must respond by Friday, March 18.
