Medical Student Creates Event to Benefit Alzheimer's Association
Mimosas for Memories, a first-time event benefiting the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Cincinnati and created by UC third year medical student Christian Gausvik Jr., will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16 at the Greenwich House Gallery, 2124 Madison Rd.
Gausvik, who has a history of working with the elderly starting with a job at an assisted living facility at age 15, says he was always captivated by the stories and personalities of older generations and has wanted to dedicate his life to taking care of this segment of the Cincinnati population. He hopes to complete a geriatrics fellowship after receiving his medical degree.
"A big part of that is confronting the tragedy of Alzheimer's disease," he says. "Through medical school, I have never seen myself doing anything other than helping older adults, and this event is a representation of that passion."
The event includes light bites from more than five local caterers, a full mimosa bar, photo booth, live harp and piano music and a silent auction. The gallery will be donating 10 percent of art sales from the day towards the fundraising efforts.
Tickets are $25 or $44 per couple in advance online and $35 at the door.
