Journalism Alumnus Snags Top Awards from Ohio Associated Press Managing Editors' Organization
At a state-wide ceremony honoring top journalists, University of Cincinnati alumnus Sam Greene took home first place honors in photography and page design.
Greene, who graduated with a baccalaureate degree in journalism in 2012, received top awards for Best News Photo, Best Full Page Design, and Best Photographer from the Ohio Associated Press Managing Editors' organization. He won the second place award for Best Sports Photo. In perhaps his highest honor, he was named the state's Photographer of the Year.
In a recent interview with the McMicken College of Arts & Sciences, Greene, a staff photojournalist at the city's only daily newspaper, noted that his time working with The News Record, the independent student newspaper on campus, gave him his most valuable real-world experience. Combined with his internships, Greene said that being able to work for the student newspaper gave him an edge in the job market. "I don't think I could have gotten the same kind of education anywhere else," he said.
His advice for current students? "Work hard. Take risks. Devote yourself entirely to the craft and be willing to push yourself beyond your comfort level."

This year, Reisch was recognized for her career accomplishments and contributions with the Philanthropist of the Year Award by UC’s Alumni Association. This award is given to an alumnus who has been highly engaged in philanthropic activities with A&S, or has made a significant impact on the college.
