CCM Opens 2016-17 Mainstage Series with a Retelling of 'Romeo and Juliet'
The University of Cincinnatis College-Conservatory of Music opens its 2016-17 Mainstage Series with a preview performance of William Shakespeares
on
Wednesday, Sept. 28
in
Patricia Corbett Theater
. With this modern production of the Bards beloved tragedy, director
aims to preserve Shakespeares intentions and give CCM students the opportunity to bring these iconic roles to life.
CCMs retelling of
Romeo and Juliet
weaves the familiar story of ill-fated young love with a modern comedic twist. Its a comedy until its not, said Assistant Professor of Acting Brant Russell.
What Im hoping the audience will take away from this is everything that CCM does so well; lavish production values and excellent young actors coming together to tell a story that means something to everyone, Russell said. Everything an audience has come to expect from CCM and its eye-popping productions will be present in this show.
CCM Acting seniors
Spencer Lackey
and
Katie McDonald
play the title roles an experience that would be a dream come true for many young actors. Russell is happy to showcase fresh faces, which is what the script actually calls for. According to the plays text, Juliet is almost 14 years old and Romeos age is never explicitly mentioned.
This production puts the beauty and eloquence of Shakespeares language front and center, but, in the mouths of these young actors, youll hear the language like youve never heard it before, Russell said.
Romeo and Juliet
opens on
Wednesday, Sept. 28 (preview)
and runs through
Sunday, Oct. 2
at the CCMs
Patricia Corbett Theater

Donate instruments at LINKS drive on May 10-11
May 6, 2024
Through the Lonely Instruments for Needy Kids (LINKS) program, you can donate your used band or orchestra instrument to a young musician who cannot afford to rent or purchase their own. The LINKS instrument donation drive is at 10 a.m.-4 p.m. this Friday, May 10, and Saturday, May 11 2024, at any Willis Music or Buddy Rogers Music location. A project of CCMpower in partnership with Willis Music and Buddy Roger’s Music, LINKS began in 1994 as the brainchild of CCM alumnus Bill Harvey (BM Music Education, 1971). The owner of Buddy Roger’s Music, Harvey wanted to fill the need for students whose parents were unable to buy, rent or borrow an instrument. The solution was to create a “recycling program” for musical instruments.
