UC Clermont Women's Soccer Team Kicks Off Second Season
The UC Clermont womens soccer team kicked off their second season this fall. Head Coach Blaine Callahan said the team has a strong incoming class and that the program is in great shape literally.
We got the program started late in the summer last year, so our conditioning is going to be much better this season than it was in the past, Callahan said. The team has been practicing since early June. However, Callahan said one challenge this season will be experience, as the Cougars only return four players.
Were young; we have a class of 16 freshmen, so helping them adapt to the college soccer game will be important, he said. The team does return some talented players, including goalkeeper and junior Megan Louk, who had almost 200 saves last season.
She was absolutely phenomenal, Callahan said. She kept us in games.
The offense should get a boost this season, with the addition of goal-scoring junior Jackie Frame, while Sarah Ventura, a freshman from Anderson playing attacking midfield, will be counted on for leadership.
Shell be a captain and a leader for us, Callahan said. She stepped into the role almost from the beginning.
Defense could be a strength as well for the Cougars. In addition to Louk in goal, Callahan has been impressed by her back four defenders, which include returning captain Samantha Price. And the Cougars arent afraid of a tough opponent.
We have some difficult games against high-level schools, but we welcome the challenge, Callahan said. Two of the teams bigger games are against Cincinnati Christian and Mount St. Joseph University.
Clermont travels to face Midway University in Kentucky on Sept. 15 to face the Eagles at 4 p.m.
