UC Seeking Applicants for Director of New Academic Press

The University of Cincinnati has made the bold decision to start a new university press in 2016 and seeks the right leader for this exciting endeavor. The university has determined that its new Press will contribute to advancing scholarship within the global academic community by exploring new modes of 21st-century scholarship and investigating issues in the vitally important field of social justice. The university seeks a dynamic, innovative, and forward-thinking director to shape this Press, its programs and infrastructure.

At its start, the Press will focus on two programs: peer-reviewed scholarly works in social justice and a community engagement imprint featuring the rich history of Cincinnati and its university, especially with respect to social justice themes. Examples of research in social justice include economic inequality, health disparity, education disparity, political enfranchisement, and more.

The ideal Press director will embody and promote a flexible leadership style and business acumen that blends together the best of traditional and new models for scholarly publishing, guided by the changing needs of the readers and researchers who consume the Press’ works. During the startup years, the director will serve as the primary acquisitions editor for the Press’ social justice program.

Working under the aegis of the University of Cincinnati Libraries and reporting to the dean and university librarian, the Press director has the unique opportunity to define the publishing program, build a team, establish key partnerships for publishing services, and participate in creating a new model for university press publishing.

It is expected that the director will join the Press in fall 2016, hire a team in 2017 and have first publications appear in late 2017 or early 2018.
