'Old Modern: Portraits of the Women of Modernism in Old Age' Featured in Park National Bank Art Gallery at UC Clermont

The solo exhibition “Old Modern: Portraits of the Women of Modernism in Old Age” features 26 oil paintings by artist Kim Rae Taylor in the Park National Bank Art Gallery at UC Clermont College through March 28.

The series documents some of the women who were an integral part of the art and literary avant-garde during the early decades of the twentieth century, capturing these women in their later years, since many had long, productive lives. Through the lens of gender and aging, Taylor captures the many female artists, writers, poets, performers, and art patrons of all types who helped shape the period of Modernism. Their elderly faces are a reminder of their important contributions to the arts, their longevity, and the power of creativity.

Taylor is associate professor of fine arts at UC Clermont College and the ongoing series serves as a visual extension of her research into the later lives of the women of the modernist period. It is displayed for the first time at UC Clermont College during Women’s History Month.

The Park National Bank Art Gallery is located in the Snyder Building on the UC Clermont College campus in Batavia at 4200 Clermont College Drive. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday,8 a.m. – 5 p.m. For more than 20 years, the spacious 1,000 square foot gallery has offered visual art exhibits open to UC Clermont students, faculty, staff and the general public.
