Communiversity Offers Native American Flute Class
The Native American flute dates back more than 60,000 years and was integral to the development of the Native American culture. Originally used for healing, meditation and even courtship, the sound of the Native American flute is entrancing and soothing and, surprisingly, easy to learn.
Communiversity is thrilled to offer its second Native American flute class with the wonderfully talented musician and composer, John DeBoer, Spirit of Thunder. DeBoer has been a professional musician for more than 30 years. His flute music has been played millions of times on the internet and he has performed with more than 30 major label groups, such as Chubby Checker, The Crystals, Merle Haggard and many more. A naturalist for the park system, DeBoer holds a degree in fine arts and is a certified music teacher. DeBoer is a wonderful storyteller and teaches thousands of children every year about nature with his Storyteller's Flutes, a collection of the worlds finest Native American flutes mostly gifts to him from the makers. Check out DeBoer's
channel to hear his beautiful music.
Even those with no musical background can pick up a flute and play right away no need to read music. Be prepared to practice on your own outside of class and by the end of our three session "playshop," you will have built a solid foundation on this instrument. Student flutes are provided for you to use and professional flutes will be available for purchase at the first class.
