UC's Green Efforts Receive Gold Rating from Higher Ed Sustainability Association
The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education has recognized the University of Cincinnati as a Gold level institution based on achievements in campus sustainability.
That award came as a result of AASHE Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) measure of sustainability performance.
UC was recognized for a focus on sustainability via academics, research, campus and community engagement, operations, grounds practices, transportation offerings, water use and more.
The university was given high marks for, among others:
- Using campus as a living laboratory for sustainability.
- Providing incentives for developing courses around sustainability.
- Providing both undergraduate and graduate program offerings related to sustainability.
- Supporting research and scholarship on sustainability.
- Integrating sustainability into student orientation, student life, employee orientation and more.
- Community partnerships, inter-campus collaborations, and participation in public policy.
- Fostering biodiversity on its grounds.
- Supporting sustainable transportation.
- Sustainable water use and rain management.
