Faculty Member Susan Bourke Receives UCPD Annual Appreciation Award

The University of Cincinnati Police Division recently created a new award, the Annual Appreciation Award, to recognize those individuals and entities that dedicate time and energy to assisting the division.

“UCPD, in its efforts to be a model campus law enforcement agency, recognizes its goals cannot be achieved without the assistance of positive partnerships,” said Chief Anthony Carter.

Associate Professor Susan Bourke was recently named the first recipient of award. She teaches in the School of Criminal Justice, part of the College of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services, and is the faculty advisor for the Criminal Justice Field Placement Program.

Bourke has partnered with UCPD on numerous crime prevention campaigns and on the University of Cincinnati’s School of Criminal Justice Student Internship Program. She can be seen walking with UCPD officers distributing crime prevention flyers and hosting chat forums and lunches for criminal justice students and UCPD.  In addition, she often invites UCPD officers to speak to her students.

“We sincerely appreciate Susan Bourke’s contributions to our division. She has been a long-time partner with and supporter of UCPD and other law enforcement agencies,” Carter said.

Bourke was surprised and happy to receive the award.

“I have the utmost respect for our UC Police Division. I value the work that they do to keep our campus and our students safe, and I admire the work they do in our community,” Bourke said.
