Walk Ahead for a Brain Tumor Cure on Oct. 22
The eighth annual Walk Ahead for a Brain Tumor event is expected to draw its traditional crowd of thousands on Sunday, Oct. 22.
Survivors, caregivers, family, friends, brain tumor specialists and community members participate in this inspiring walk to benefit the research and educational efforts of the University of Cincinnati Brain Tumor Center at the University of Cincinnati Gardner Neuroscience Institute.
The chip-timed 5K run begins at 8:30 a.m. at Sawyer Point Park in downtown Cincinnati. The 5K walk begins at 9 a.m. The route is wheelchair accessible. Rick June and Mike Perez are this years co-chairs.
Walk Ahead is a way to show solidarity and support for loved ones while also contributing to real progress as we gather momentum on brain tumor researchand its a lot of fun, said June, the father of a brain tumor survivor. Ive participated in many 5Ks across many disease areas, and none have the depth of spirit that I've experienced with Walk Ahead. I think its because a brain cancer diagnosis has gone from being an immediate death sentence to a field where there is renewed hope. That feeling of hope is palpable at this event.
The 2016 walk raised more than $335,000 thanks to more than 3,300 walkers, runners and supporters.
