UC Links with Industry to Share Knowledge at SmartRegions Conference 

The University of Cincinnati will be well represented in the Oct. 25 Midwest IoT Showcase and SmartRegions Conference at BB&T Arena in Northern Kentucky.

Because UC’s Office of Research is a sponsor of the conference, the event is free to UC faculty and students, who will have an opportunity to take in a tech expo, drone races and thought leadership breakout sessions. UC faculty and students can claim complimentary tickets here.

“This is the first regional IoT showcase and expo where together, we are going to showcase UC researchers' (and students') work alongside other area researchers' work and industry-born technologies,” said Jennifer Krivickas, UC’s assistant vice president of integrated research and head of the DAAP Library. “This is a great way for faculty and students to network and develop relationships with researchers outside UC, government officials, community leaders, and industry leaders in the IoT space.”

Themes of the event include the future of mobility and smart transportation, cybersecurity, energy and medical tech as well as homelessness, child poverty and the heroin epidemic.

University of Cincinnati presenters represent faculty members from all across campus and university leadership.

UC Presenters

• Shaman Abdullah, from the UC College of Engineering and Applied Science, will be speaking as part of  the “Smart Transportation and Infrastructure” and “Advanced and Autonomous Transportation” presentations.
• Pravin Bhiwapurkar, assistant professor of the School of Architecture and Interior Design at UC, will be part of the “Smart Cities are Sustainable Cities” presentation.
• Jennifer Brown, associate professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience, will present as part of the "Defeating the Heroin and Opioid Epidemic Roundtable."
• James Canfield, assistant professor in the UC College of Allied Health Sciences School of Social Work, will be part of the “Ending Homelessness and Childhood Poverty Roundtable.”
• Jonathan Corey, an assistant professor in Civil & Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, will present as part of “Advanced and Autonomous Transportation.”
• Richard Harknett, head of UC’s Department of Political Science, will present on “Cyber Security in Smart Cities.”
• Jess Kropczynski, assistant professor of information technology at UC, will present on “Resilient Infrastructure.”
• Patrick Limbach, vice president for research at UC, will present on “University Cities.”
• Jiaqui Ma, an assistant professor in Civil & Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, will present on “Smart Cities are Mobile Cities.”
• Juan Antonio Islas Munoz, assistant professor of Practice, Industrial Design at DAAP, will present as part of “Smart Transportation and Infrastructure.”
• Gjoko Muratovski, director of the Myron E. Ullman, Jr. School of Design at DAAP, will present on “Smart Transportation and Infrastructure.”
• Nelson Vincent, CIO and vice president for Information Technology at UC, will present on “Big Data and IoT Smart Regions."
