DAAP End-of-Semester Show Features Build-Lab Opening
What used to be known as the University of Cincinnatis DAAP Shop, a unique space home to all manner of artists large-scale creations, is now a modern design space thanks to a $2 million renovation of what is now known as the DAAP Build Lab. After three years of planning, construction began in spring 2017, and the DAAP Build Lab will open for the first time Tuesday, Dec. 5.
a private ribbon-cutting from 5-6:30 p.m., which features a live demonstration of a bronze pour at 5:30 p.m. The lab opens to the public at 6:30 p.m.
The Build Lab will provide an interactive environment where students combine their ideas with raw materials, tools and hard work to create unique products. It includes nine distinct areas including a welding facility, high-bay space, resin room, foundry and tool library with enough open space to accommodate large group projects. The tool library allows students to check out equipment to use for projects (once they have completed the required training, now mandatory for all first-year DAAP students).
The lab opening coincides with DAAPs annual fall end-of-semester show, from 5-8 p.m., featuring student work from all the programs within the colleges various schools displayed throughout the DAAP complex. All are welcome to attend; guests should make their way to the fourth floor cafe area for directions and a map. For more information, contact Sarah McManus at sarah.mcmanus@uc.edu or 513-556-6260 or RSVP for the private opening.
