UC s New VSP Vision Insurance Plan
If you enrolled in UCs new vision insurance plan, your coverage was effective Jan. 1, 2018. You can verify your enrollment by checking your ESS account (
). If you are a monthly paid employee, your first VSP premium will be withheld from your Jan. 31 paycheck; if you are are biweekly paid employee, your first premium deduction will be on your Jan. 23 paycheck.
UCs vision carrier is VSP. Our plan is a materials-only plan which gives you (and covered family members) an annual allowance for glasses or contacts. You dont need a vision insurance card but can print one easily if you establish an online VSP account. Access www.vsp.com then select Create An Account (top right) and follow the prompts. You will not have a member ID number. Use the VSP site to find providers and many other services.
You can create a VSP account by following the steps below.
- Visit www.vsp.com
- Click on CREATE AN ACCOUNT at the top of the page
- Enter the Member ID Number (Do not enter any information in this field.)
- Enter the member's first and last name
- Enter the member's date of birth
- Click CONTINUE
- Follow the steps to create a user name and password
It is easy to use your new vision plan. When visiting a VSP provider, simply give your name. The provider will handle all of the details and file claims for you. Remember, your eyewear expenses are HSA and FSA compatible. As a reminder, your annual routine eye exam (refraction) is still be available through your UC Anthem medical plan as long as you use an Anthem network provider.

- Choose SPECIAL OFFERS
- Select VSP Simple Values bar (toward right of screen)
- Click DISCOVER YOUR SAVINGS (green bar, bottom of screen)
- Follow the prompts. UCs group ID for the Simple Values discount will populate (SIMPLEA).

What started as a group project between students has grown into a sustainable option for carbon reduction and elimination in Cincinnati, which is one of the only cities in Ohio to have tiny forests.
