Sacred Spaces Exhibit Featured at UC Clermont
The exhibition Sacred Spaces, featuring photographs by artist Ruth Foote, is on display in the Park National Bank Art Gallery at UC Clermont College through June 27th.
The exhibit highlights photos of churches taken with a pinhole camera, a simple box with a literal pinhole for an aperture no lens, moving parts or batteries and Footes work often possesses a narrative quality that results from multiple vantage points on the same subject. She is a professor of commercial photography at Owens Community College in Perrysburg, Ohio; her award-winning photography has been exhibited internationally. The inspiration for Sacred Spaces, Foote said, came from her childhood spent in church.
Growing up, my family was very involved in church, so I have spent a lot of time inside them, Foote said. Historic structures built to encourage reverence and decorated to instruct fuel my imagination and continually inspire awe. The individual images of each structure viewed together begin to look like stained glass windows. Together, I hope they create an environment that communicates the sacredness of the spaces they represent.
The Park National Bank Art Gallery is located in the Snyder Building on the UC Clermont College campus in Batavia at 4200 Clermont College Drive. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.5 p.m. For more than 20 years, the spacious 1,000-square-foot gallery has offered visual art exhibits open to UC Clermont students, faculty, staff and the general public.
