UC Clermont Offers Online Accounting Degree
This fall, UC Clermont College will make it easier than ever to earn an associate degree in
by offering the program completely online.
The two-year associate degree program qualifies graduates for careers in bookkeeping, payroll, accounts receivable, management and government accounting, as well as further study through the colleges Bachelor of Technical and Applied Studies. Patty Goedl, associate professor of accounting, said that demand in the field is high, with nearly all organizations in need of those with accounting skills. The online format will help the college meet the evolving and diverse needs of students, including those who are already working and looking to make a career change.
Opportunities for those with two-year degrees in accounting are particularly great right now, said Goedl. This online format not only offers students flexibility and convenience at UC Clermonts affordable tuition, but also allows us to reach a larger student population to meet local and national demand for paraprofessionals in accounting.
Jessica Beasley, who graduated with her associate degree in accounting from UC Clermont in 2012, is now a staff accountant for UC and working toward her bachelors degree. Beasley said that she chose UC Clermonts program because it was close to her home in Batavia and offered an environment and degree option that fit her schedule and career goals as a non-traditional student.
I was apprehensive about going to college later in life but the atmosphere at Clermont was so warm and comfortable that I knew it was going to be a great fit for me, Beasley said. My goal at the start of my time at Clermont was to learn the necessary skills to help me become employable in a field I thought I would enjoy and to do so as quickly as possible. UC Clermonts associate degree in accounting really appealed to me.
Once a student, Beasley found the support and flexibility she needed to be successful. All of my professors seemed to genuinely care about my success and encouraged me to push just a little harder, Beasley said. My online classes also proved to be a great way for me to better balance my school life with work and personal time; I was able to better work around other commitments that might have prevented me from attending class.
