UC College of Nursing Announces Scholarship Winner

The University of Cincinnati College of Nursing has awarded the National Speaking of Women's Health (SWH) Scholarship for a Women's Health graduate student at the UC College of Nursing to Holly Hinkle, RN, BSN.

"I am honored to be this year's recipient," said Hinkle. "It is unbelievable to me because I have been taking out student loans for three years. Now I can focus all of my attention on school without worrying about the cost."

Hinkle began her nursing career in 1995 with a diploma degree from Christ Hospital School of Nursing, Cincinnati, Ohio. She worked as a labor and delivery nurse at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence Ky., and Dearborn County Hospital, Lawrenceburg, IN. Hinkle completed her bachelor's in Nursing from Indiana Wesleyan in the spring of 2000 and began the graduate program in Women's Health Nursing at the UC College of Nursing the following fall quarter.

"The College of Nursing and the department of Parent Child Health Nursing are extremely excited about the opportunity to partner with the National Speaking of Women's Health Foundation to provide scholarship monies to one of our graduate Women's Health nursing students," said Marcia Hern, EdD, RN, department chair and professor. "This relationship will help augment the care of women across the life span and in rural areas through the successful education of our student and recipient Holly Hinkle."

Hinkle will be presented with the award at the annual Speaking of Women's Health 2003 conference, March 12-16, 2003 at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center and will attend the College of Nursing Annual Scholarship dinner.

The scholarship task force was made up of faculty from the UC College of Nursing and included Hern; Dianne Felblinger, EdD, MSN, CN, director of the Women's Health graduate nursing program; Judy Dulin, PhD, assistant professor; and Susan Green, director of business operations.
