Local Organizations Discuss "Health Gap"

National and local experts in public health and human rights will meet at Cincinnati's second annual conference on health care disparities.

The UC College of Medicine, the Health Alliance and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center are sponsoring the Conference on Closing the Health Gap in Greater Cincinnati Nov. 15 at the Cinergy Cincinnati Convention Center. The theme for the 2004 conference is "Approaching Disparities through Prevention."

This conference aims to increase awareness and understanding of the major health problems facing our region. National and local speakers, health care professionals and community organization members will team up to examine the effect of health disparities and to mobilize the community in finding solutions.

Antonia Coello Novello, MD, MPH, DrPH, New York State health commissioner; Louis W. Sullivan, MD, former U.S. secretary of health and human services; and Elena V. Rios, MD, MSPH, president and CEO of the National Hispanic Medical Association, will present keynote addresses.
