UC Pharmacy Students Ace State Boards
The UC College of Pharmacys class of 2004 achieved a 100 percent pass rate on the North American Pharmacy Licensure Examination, administered by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy. Of the four pharmacy colleges in Ohio, only UC and Ohio State achieved 100 percent passes. All 43 UC students will now be able to enter pharmacy practice.
The class of 2004 made history by being the schools first complete class to graduate with a doctorate in pharmacy (known as the PharmD), without receiving the baccalaureate degree in pharmacy. Introduced at UC in the late 1990s, the new, integrated curriculum educates entry-level pharmacy students all the way to the doctoral degree, eliminating bachelors or masters degrees.
UC pharmacy students also distinguished themselves with their outstanding academic credentials and school and extracurricular activities. Six of the 13 UC students nominated to appear in the 2004 Whos Who of American University Students were from the College of Pharmacy.
This is a tremendous reflection on the knowledge and skills of our faculty and the academic excellence and enthusiasm of our students, says Daniel Acosta, PhD, dean of the College of Pharmacy. For five years weve basically been number one among all the pharmacy schools in Ohio, which themselves perform better than the national average.
