Open House Offers Flu Shots and Free Health Screenings

The University of Cincinnati Physicians group challenges the community to learn more about health care so they can make informed decisions.

The group is inviting the public to its fourth annual open house and health fair on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the University Pointe Medical Campus in West Chester.

“The UC Physicians group is a caring, comprehensive resource here to serve the community,” said executive director John Gillespie. “Our doctors are not only physicians—they’re also teachers and innovators. By educating Cincinnatians about their health and well being, we can improve lives.”

In addition to free health screenings—including bone density, hearing, allergy, skin cancer, blood glucose and body fat tests—the open house will also offer a seven-part health-education series.

The 30-minute educational sessions, led by UC Physicians, begin at 10:30 a.m. and include:

  • What did you say?: Hearing disorders, presented by Ravi Samy, MD, and Susan Martin (10:30 a.m.)
  • The need to breathe: Sleep disorders, presented by Victoria Surdulescu, MD (11 a.m.)
  • How a balanced diet can reduce your risk of cancer: Presented by Zeina Nahleh, MD, of UC Cancer Center (11:30 a.m.)
  • Sprains, strains and automobiles: Athletic injuries, presented by Keith Kenter, MD (noon)
  • Know what you blow: Sinus and allergy, presented by Allen Seiden, MD (12:30 p.m.)
  • Smart visit: Healthier check-ups, presented by Manoj Singh, MD (1 p.m.)
  • Reveal a new you: Skin care, presented by Michelle Choucair, MD, and John Kitzmiller, MD (1:30 p.m.)

All sessions will be held in University Pointe’s first floor community room.

A limited number of adult flu vaccinations and cholesterol checks are available for discounted prices—$15 and $5, respectively. Health professionals, people who work with young children, and the elderly are encouraged to have flu vaccinations. Individuals receiving cholesterol checks should fast for nine to 12 hours prior to their scheduled appointment. Appointments are required and can be made by calling (513) 475-8000.

UC Physicians is the region’s largest multi-specialty group, with more than 600 physicians practicing in 26 specialties. University Pointe, a 75-acre, mixed-use medical campus that includes a $3 million imaging center and free-standing surgical hospital, is one of three patient service facilities operated by UC Physicians.

The open house and health fair is supported by Huntington Bank, Fifth Third Bank, Target Pharmacy, Mitchell’s Salon and Day Spa and Discover Health. Complimentary refreshments will be provided by T.G.I. Friday’s, McAlister’s Deli, Breadsmith and Uptown Coffee.
