UC to Educate Public During National Heart Month

Faculty members of the University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center are giving a series of public presentations Jan. 31 through Feb. 21 on the symptoms, treatment and prevention of heart failure.

Coordinated by Lynne Wagoner, MD, a professor in UC’s cardiology division, the programs are sponsored by UC’s

Heart and Vascular Center,

the

UC Physicians

practice group and University Hospital in recognition National Heart Month.

The presentations, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the Marriott North in West Chester, are designed for both the general public and health professionals. Participation is free, but registration is requested.

Jan. 31: Heart failure, atrial fibrillation and coronary artery disease, with Dr. Wagoner and fellow cardiologists, Richard Callihan, MD, and Syed Najeed, MD.   

Feb. 7: Metabolic syndrome, obesity, diabetes, and peripheral vascular disease, with endocrinologist Amanda Denney, MD, cardiologist Mohamed Effat, MD, and vascular surgeon Amy Reed, MD.  

Feb. 14: Diseases that mimic heart disease, including pulmonary hypertension, sleep apnea, and shortness of breath, with cardiologist Tehmina Naz, MD, sleep expert Victoria Surdulescu, MD, and pulmonary and critical-care intensivist Elsie Pina, MD. 

Feb. 21: Heart rhythm disorders and new medical or surgical treatments for atrial fibrillation, with cardiologists Jeff Brunfield, MD, and Mehran Attari, MD, and cardiovascular surgeon and director of the Center for Surgical Innovation, Randall Wolf, MD.
