University of Cincinnati Names New Vascular Surgery Division Director

Cincinnati—The University of Cincinnati (UC) College of Medicine has appointed George Meier III, MD, as the new director of its vascular surgery division.

 

Meier will serve as a professor in the UC College of Medicine and see patients at University Hospital and various UC Physicians outpatient facilities, including University Pointe in West Chester and the Medical Arts Building in Clifton.

 

He previously served as chief and program director for vascular surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS). 

 

Bringing a distinguished academic and surgical training background to UC, Meier is certified by the American Board of Surgery in both general and vascular surgery and also holds a certificate of added qualification in surgical critical care. 

 

His professional interests include the management of diabetic vascular disease, wound healing, stroke prevention, and vascular education. He also has won several teaching awards as a surgical resident and as a faculty member.

 

Meier received his medical degree from Emory University before completing his general surgery residency and fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. He completed postdoctoral training in general, thoracic and vascular surgery at Mass General, while serving as an assistant in surgery at Harvard University. He then served on the Yale University faculty for 10 years before assuming his position at EVMS.

 

A frequent national and international speaker, Meier has made more than 100 presentations, published more than 50 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and co-authored 10 books.

 

Meier is on the editorial board of the journal Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, and a key reviewer for the Journal of Vascular Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and member of more than 20 professional medical societies.
