Cardiothoracic Radiologist Named Chairwoman of UC s Radiology Department
She replaces Robert Lukin, MD, who retired in February 2008 after 15 years as chair of the department. Collins will be the fourth chair and the first woman to lead UCs radiology department.
Collins appointment is effective Feb. 1, 2009, pending approval by the UC Board of Trustees. Interim chairperson Mary Gaskill-Shipley, MD, will continue to lead the department through January 2009.

Collins joins UC from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health Department of Radiology where she currently serves as a professor of radiology and medicine. Her clinical practice focuses on advanced cardiothoracic and diagnostic breast imaging, including mammography, ultrasound and image-guided biopsy.

A respected educator and clinician, she also serves in national leadership roles including her current role as president of the Society of Thoracic Radiologists and chair of the American Roentgen Ray Society maintenance of certification committee and Radiological Society of North America education refresher course.

Collins received her medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio where she was ranked first in a class of 120. She completed her diagnostic radiology residency at the
A clinician-scientist, Collins has published nearly 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and
more than 75 book chapters, book reviews, editorials and published seminars regarding breast and cardiothoracic imaging as well as educational issues. Her primary research interests include imaging lung transplants, thoracic trauma, small airway disease and cystic fibrosis as well as medical education research.
Collins is certified by the American Board of Radiology. She will continue her clinical practice in cardiopulmonary imaging.
