UC HEALTH LINE: Women's Health Focus of UC Health Wellness Event

CINCINNATI—When J.J. JioDucci experienced unexplained vaginal bleeding, the possibility of cancer never crossed her mind.

"The bleeding happened several times, but I thought it was the start of menopause,” says JioDucci, 52, of Madisonville.

It wasn’t until the bleeding became severe that JioDucci thought to herself that something might be terribly wrong.

Women are notorious for ignoring what their body is trying to tell them and for putting the needs of others in front of their own. But when it comes to health, University of Cincinnati (UC) experts say, women need to put themselves front and center.

Experts from UC Health will be on hand Saturday, April 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the UC Health West Chester Campus (7700 University Court) to discuss a number of women’s health topics and answer questions.

A series of seminars will cover:

• Managing menopause symptoms
• Breast cancer risks
• Breast screening guidelines
• Infertility—causes and treatments
• Incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse
• Minimally invasive surgery in gynecology
• Options for breast and body enhancement

UC Health physicians making presentations include Krystene Boyle DiPaola, MD, Kellie Flood-Shaffer, MD, Mary South, MD, John Kitzmiller, MD, Su-Ju Lee, MD, Steven Lindheim, MD, W. Edward Richards, MD, and Elizabeth Shaughnessy, MD.

"Women can’t care for others if they aren’t well themselves,” says Richards. "It’s important that they take time to listen to their bodies and fit in regular exams.”

Attendees at the Women’s Wellness Event will be eligible for prizes and will also have the opportunity to tour the new women’s imaging center. Food will be provided. Space is limited. Call (513) 475-8030 to reserve a seat.
