UC Leaders Nominated to Top Positions in Leading Research Society
CINCINNATIBradley Britigan, MD, Taylor Professor and chair of the department of medicine at the University of Cincinnati, and Neal Weintraub, MD, Stonehill Professor and chief of the division of cardiovascular diseases, were recently elected to two of the top leadership positions of the Central Society for Clinical Research (CSCR).
Established in 1928, the CSCR is one of the oldest and largest academic medical societies in the Midwest. Its missions include advancing medical science, cultivating clinical research, encouraging scientific investigation and supporting the development of young investigators. The society oversees publication of the biomedical journal Translational Research.
At the societys annual meeting, Britigan, a specialist in infectious disease, was elected president of the CSCR; Weintraub was elected vice president and will assume the presidency in two years.
"It is an honor to follow the major leaders of academic medicine who have served as president of the CSCR over the last 80 years, including Drs. Robert Luke, Gilbert Schiff and Marion Blankenhorn, all from the University of Cincinnati, says Britigan. "Having two individuals from the same medical school in these senior leadership positions at the same time is somewhat unusual for the organization.
"This speaks highly to the quality of clinical, translational and basic research were doing in the department of medicine and the UC Academic Health Center as a whole.
The CSCR has approximately 800 members throughout the Midwest U.S. and Canada. Membership is by nomination and election only and is based on research accomplishments.
