Pilot Research Project Symposium Set for Oct. 13-14

Scientists will discuss the latest occupational and environmental health research at the University of Cincinnati (UC) Education and Research Center’s 12th annual Pilot Research Project Symposium on Thursday, Oct. 13, and Friday, Oct. 14, 2011.

The symposium is free and open to public and will take place in Kettering Laboratory’s Kehoe Auditorium at the UC College of Medicine’s environmental health department. 

Led by environmental health professor Amit Bhattacharya, PhD, the program offers financial support to doctoral students and junior faculty with promising research ideas. Previous year’s research award winners will present their results and 2011–2012 winners will display poster presentations of their proposed work. 

John, R. Balmes, MD, professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, professor of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley, and director of the Northern California Center for Occupational and Environmental Health, will speak on the topic of "Occupational Contribution to COPD” during a keynote address on Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.  

Thomas R. Waters, PhD, senior safety engineer on the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health’s Human Factors and Ergonomics Research Team, will give the keynote address on Oct. 14 at 8 a.m. on "Healthcare Ergonomics – Safe Patient Handling.”

The event takes place in Kehoe Auditorium of Kettering Laboratory, 3223 Eden Ave., on the UC College of Medicine, on Thursday, Oct. 13, from 1 to 5: p.m., and Friday, Oct.14, from 8 a.m. to 1p.m.
