UC College of Nursing's Online Degree Programs 'Top 25' Nationally
CINCINNATIThe online education and career information website SuperScholar.org has listed the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing as one of the Top 25 "Smart Choice nursing schools for online nursing degrees.
"Our ranking is a testament to our innovative, outstanding faculty who are embedded in our outstanding Academic Health Center at UC, says Greer Glazer, PhD, dean of the College of Nursing.
According to the ranking criteria, in order to be considered for inclusion, an institution had to be a regionally accredited college or university listed in the National Center for Education Statistics database and offer an online nursing degree program accredited by either the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The nursing schools that met this initial accreditation criterion were then evaluated based on reputation and prestige, program quality, student satisfaction and cost.
"We have been a leader in online education since we began offering our nurse midwifery and womens health nurse practitioner programs online in 2006, Glazer says, adding that the colleges online offerings have since expanded to include an RN to BSN program and a MSN program, with specializations in Adult Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist/Nurse Educator, Family Nurse Practitioner, Nurse-Midwifery, Nursing Administration, Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing and Womens Health Nurse Practitioner.
In most cases, students are allowed to choose a clinical practicum in their own region with approval from the college.
In fall 2012, the college will begin offering some of the elements of a doctor of nursing practice program online as well. The innovative hybrid delivery method will allow for the utmost flexibility for working professionals who wish to continue their education at UC.
SuperScholar.org also ranks UC, as a whole, among the nations Top 25 distance learning programs. More information about UCs distance learning programs can be found at www.uc.edu/distance. More information about the College of Nursing can be found at www.nursing.uc.edu.
