Chinese Professors Visit UC to Share Knowledge on E-Waste
Xia Huo, MD, PhD, and Xijin Xu, PhD, professors at Shantou University Medical College in Shantou, China, recently visited the UC Department of Environmental Health to share information about electronic waste (e-waste) recycling and the potential exposure to mixed chemicals for local residents.
Huo and Xu are collaborating with UC environmental health faculty Aimin Chen, PhD, Kim Dietrich, PhD, Tiina Reponen, PhD, and Shuk-mei Ho, PhD, on the e-waste Recycling Exposure and Community Health Study (e-REACH), funded by the National Institutes of Health. The international population study, led by UC, is the first to examine the human developmental effects of environmental exposure to the complex metal mixture found in electronic waste (e-waste).
