Register Now for 2012 OVALS Conference

UC faculty, staff and students with an interest in commercialization of new life sciences technologies, collaboration opportunities and creating economic impact should plan to attend the 2012 Ohio Valley Affiliates for Life Sciences (OVALS) conference Oct. 1 and 2 in Louisville, Ky.

UC was a founding member of OVALS, which formed in 2002, and is an organizing member of the yearly OVALS conference.

This year’s conference, titled "Meeting Health Care Challenges Through Technology and Novel Approaches,” will cover:

• Partnership opportunities for commercialization of medical devices.
• Realities of raising capital for startup companies in today’s environment.
• Startup companies and connecting startups to resources.
• Changes in patent law and how they will affect patent process at universities.

Elizabeth Dougherty, director of inventor education, outreach and recognition with the Office of Innovation Development at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, will be the presenter on patent changes and policies.

The event will also offer a showcase of exciting university life sciences technologies poised to make a difference and students will have a chance to compete in a technology poster session.

OVALS also encourages attendance by technology transfer professionals, corporate scientists, business development professionals, state and local economic development officials, attorneys, investors, incubators and entrepreneurs.
